Syrah - La Presa 2008
Description
Santa Barbara County
The La Presa vineyard is just ouside Solvang, twenty miles downstream of the Paradise Road vineyard, with daytime temperatures averaging 15-20 degrees (F) cooler. It enjoys very warm days, cooling down at night as coastal influences push fog up the river valley.
Planted on an extremely steep south facing slope of limestone shale, a staircase and a good pair of hiking boots provides the only access to the terraced vines. Due to the steep slope, every aspect of farming is done by hand, ensuring the utmost attention goes into every vine.
Characteristics Impressively inky purple in color, with aromas of deep ripe fruit, spice and hints of vanilla. Chewy flavors of black cherry and cloves mixed with caramel, vanilla and tobacco. The layers of flavor are big and bold. It displays outstanding concentration, length, intensity and depth, with ripe tannins, and a long, bold finish.
